Have we met? - my coincidental week

A busy week in the material world, I cannot tell you Blogger, how much information, how many events and how many new people flew through my material experience this week. But, take it from me, there have been a lot. In fact, there have been so many, I just know I have probably forgotten some of the seemingly unimportant coincidences which have happened to me.

All Week: People Giving Way

I have been taking this for granted again, remiss of me. A reminder that the person sitting behind the steering wheel has been prompted by their Guardian Angel to stay sitting in their car for a few moments longer as I go about my business. There are many, many times when people don't give way, cars just fly by, without giving it a thought as to the pedestrians they are driving past. People who have often been walking in the cold, for hours, essential miles to travel, whether it is to collect their children from school,or taking trips to the chemist for medication for sick relatives, or just carrying their shopping home. I never used to really pay attention to people 'giving way', but I have made it a 'thing'. I send love to the person who has stopped and who has paid attention to my walking plight. Although, walking is good for me and I do enjoy a brisk stroll, I need to exercise every day, sometimes, especially when it is raining, or as we have enjoyed more recently, sleeting or snowing, the walking does feel like a bit of a chore. On my travels this week, which hasn't involved any more walking than usual, I have noticed a few cars giving way for me. For this I am grateful.

Monday: Coincidental Words: Keep Smiling

I do have a history of losing umbrellas, and finding them. Sometimes when least expected, like the time I was walking along in gale force winds, rain stinging my face and an umbrella blew to my feet, literally on my path which I naturally picked up and used as a shield against the wind, it helped a bit. I did send a little sympathetic thought to whoever must have lost their umbrella, but that didn't stop me thanking the Universe/Spirit for bringing me the brolly when I needed it.

Well, this Monday morning I trotted along my local High Street, which isn't quite a High Street, more a Lower Middle Street where a mobility shop has popped up, with brollies in a bucket outside, solid brollies for a quid. I have recently lost my best brolly, although I have managed to hang onto it for a good couple of years, somehow I have managed to lose it, I can only imagine it has been given, by the Universe/Spirit, to someone who needed it more than I did. Seizing the opportunity to replenish my Brolly Stock, I nipped in and picked up a new, black, boring but sturdy, umbrella. I had a joke and a laugh with the guy in the shop 'Keep Smiling' he said to me.  I did smile, it was my Dad's favourite saying and my Mum signs her letters off with Keep Smiling. Fabulous. another little reminder there is more going on in the world than meets the eye.

Tuesday: Coincidental Name and Place

Well, first task on the first day of a different job, receiving an email from someone called Tasmin, about a property in Ditton Court Road. My name is Tamasin, guess where I live?

Wednesday: Paul Young

I know there is going to be some drama when I hear this name. Don't ask me why, this is just one of those weird anomolies in life. Where did I hear this name this week? Well, it was on the radio, a quiz show, the caller knew the name of the song he was being played, but he couldn't recall the name of the artist. I enjoyed the 'Wherever I lay my Hat' tune again.

A Wrong Number

I notice this because it is fun. The landline hardly ever rings, unless of course it is someone trying to sell something. So I was quite surprised to pick the phone up to hear a man's voice 'I don't suppose this is the Portugese restaurant?' I confirmed for him that he is right, this isn't the restaurant, but I can book him a table for 8? We both laugh, a pleasant, makes a change, exchange on the telephone.

Thursday: Coincidental People

I trotted along to a drama group on Tuesday evening, with a new found friend I am at college with (on a counselling Diploma). I had a lovely time, I sat in a circle and read from a script, written by a young guy called Daniel, another name which often features on my path, I sat next to a man called Darren. We were both reading parts of this script.

It was about a guy called Rob (there's a surprise) who threatened to shoot himself, amongst a lot of other drama about a girl who didn't want him and I was the person who had to calm him down and try and talk him out of it. Talk about drama mirroring life, or is that vice versa? Whichever. I did have a brother called Rob, and he did actually kill himself.

As I read the words, I found myself being able to deal with the scenario. I have moved on from my grief. I have actually dealt with the painful feelings. There was a time, not so long ago, when I wouldn't have even been able to read a script like this without feeling upset and some level of distress. I also knew that Daniel had been prompted to write this script, using the name Rob, and I was meant to be in that place at that time to be able to test my strength of emotional well being. I have been shown by spirit that I am in a stronger, healthier place and I have moved on.

Fast forward to Thursday and I was walking through Southend, headed towards a public loo to change into my waterproof boots. I noticed a man walking towards me who looked familiar, we both recognised the connection at the same time. It was Darren again, he was surprised as I was. 160,000 people in this town, and yet our paths crossed in the same week we have met. This is the sort of synchronicity which if you put it into a play or a film, people would find it too unlikely to actually be able to happen.

Saturday: Being Asked for Directions

My Spiritual nature is kicking back in. I am in touch with my Self. There can be no doubt. Being asked for directions, for me, is confirmation that spirit are in touch, putting me in the right place, at the right time, to be able to be of assistance to someone who doesn't know the way. It has happened again.

There I was, having just stepped out of the opticians in my new varifocals. Practising, if you will, blogger, practising at walking in my new glasses. Looking down I can't see very far, but if I look up I can see the whites of the eyes of pilots flying overhead. So, I was literally just having a little walkabout, in a street which I wouldn't normally be drawn to, nor would it be part of my regular routine walk.

A woman walking towards me said

'Can you help me?'

'I can' I say.

I don't bother with the usually British game of saying stupid things like 'I don't know, can I?' or 'I might'. I know not to play games, especially with people who have the strength to ask for help. I smile at her and I know that I can help her. I can. This is why I help people. Because I can. There is no agenda, there is nothing being asked in return. I just help.

'Do you know where the train station is?' She asks in faltering English, but she has a determined nature about her. I say I am headed that way, I will show her, rather than try and explain in English, which she may not wholly understand how she needs to spot the opening for an alleyway, up some stairs, cross a bridge and back on to herself, 200 yards up the road, etc. So I walk her to the stairs and do some arm waving and pointing. I think she got it.

In the meantime I know to find the Other Link. The coincidence between us,or the purpose of her journey. So as we walk, I ask her where she is going in London?  She doesn't know the words in English, she cannot remember the names of where she is going.  Bit like me, I thought, yes, sums it up nicely. I don't really know where I am going.

Sunday: The Butterfly

I am really enjoying my renewed connection with the Law of Attraction beliefs. I do believe the Law of Attraction is really another way of measuring our faith in Spirit/The Universe. I have been playing with the Universe this week, so I have been expecting the unknown. I was still surprised though, to see a butterfly appear, February 8th, to be exact, not butterfly season, but there it was, in the park, waiting patiently for me to take a photo. I thank the Universe and look forward to coming attractions.

Sunday: Being Mistaken for Someone Else

I went shopping in Sainsburys. I was meant to ask for cashback but when I got to the till, the operator diverted my attention.

'Have I served you already today?'
me: 'Ummm, No'
Till Operator with Stunned Face: 'I served you earlier today?'
me: 'No' with an imperceptible shake of the head I try and explain that this is definitely my first trip to Sainsburys today. 'Maybe it is my glasses, same glasses?'
Till Op: 'Same glasses, same hair, same face'
me: 'Oh. There is someone who looks like me?'
Till Op: 'Just like you, and she is around here'
me: 'I will look out for her! I probably won't recognise her'
We shared a laugh. I went about my daily business feeling less unique, less special, but also, perhaps extraordinary in that I have, yet again, been mistaken for someone else.

So, blogger, my week has been filled with coincidence, synchronicity, memorable events, both expected and unexpected. I feel very grateful to be aware of these events in my world, knowing that Spirit is nudging me life along, guiding and helping, knowing that none of us are alone in our life experience, all we have to do is notice when Spirit is trying to get our attention or ask something from us.

Lots of love and light to everyone who needs it.

Cast your bread upon the waters

Another day at the mill blogger. It was with weary feet, a heavy heart and an angst filled mind that found me walking home, in a world of my own, planning and thinking creatively about the next steps surrounding my self-employed idea. There I was, carrying shopping, making the load lighter by attempting not to think about it when I noticed a woman on a bicycle smiling at me. It was someone I know, heading on her way to work. Lovely. We stopped and shared notes, little snippets of our progress in this material world we are wading through.

Since I made a blogger promise to write about the social interactions where something unusual or meaningful is said, because I feel it is where spirit are using either party to bring a little hope, some words of encouragement whether otherwise there may have been despair, I will share with you blogger the words she said to me.

After some discussion about my attempts at self-employment and how I have a new business idea, she said my Granddad used to say "cast your bread upon the waters and some of it may come back buttered".

It did make me chuckle, what a wonderful saying, and what perfect timing for me to hear it.  Thank you to my friend's granddad for his words of wisdom from beyond the grave.

Lots of love and light to everyone who needs it.

Conversations with strangers

Conversations with strangers.

I am always aware when I am in a situation to have a little chat, a passing comment, a social interaction, that Spirit often work through me, also through the other person to bring us information we may need to hear at that time. It doesn't matter how small or meaningless the words may seem to us, I often find myself saying a phrase or a few words and the other person says 'My Dad used to say that' or 'That was my Nan's favourite phrase'.

Quite often, I find myself striking up conversation with complete strangers about the subject they need to talk about. I am pretty sure this is a gift, an unrecognised talent, lots of people have it, they often don't place any importance on their listening skills. It is in the range of psychic phenomena which can't quite be explained, and yet, often this is a great help to the person doing the talking. To touch on the subject they need to talk about.

Yes, I know some people have a lot to complain about, and no matter how you opened the small talk, they would end up talking about the particular problem on their mind. But, I am talking about the zoning in, the specific conversation starter that leads a person directly to talking about their issue. They usually start with 'Funny you should say that...' and then the coincidence begins their story.

Another new label for my blog, when words spoken to or by strangers bring new meaning or help. I love speaking to strangers. It is the unexpected conversation which often brings forth the most meaningful subjects.

I sat in a doctor's waiting room this week. Waiting for blood tests with the nurse. I was only there for about five minutes and I had three separate conversations with other patients. One about the weather. One really about the weather, her easy bruising, her blood pressure monitor, her dogs and whether it is better to have a bit of weight on as you get older, her hip replacement. There was nothing meaningful about any of the conversation, except we both felt better afterwards. My mind was taken off my blood test and I am sure she felt unburdened by having a little chat. The third person in my orbit had a conversation with me about her unusual name. Therese. How it irritates her when people call her Theresa. We had a meaningful, shared experience. Being called Tamasin, this is something I too experience, finding something in common with a total stranger.

Learning compassion, understanding and tolerance. Every social interaction is an opportunity for personal growth.

Lots of love and light to everyone who needs it.

A new broom sweeps clean

Working in a charity shop.  I guess the sheer flow of items and information that passes through the building offers Spirit a richness of random material to work with.  All I have to do is pay attention.  Right?

Well, it is not that easy.  As I am sure you know, when you are swept up in the material goings on of everyday life. Checking the fire exits are clear, keeping a dozen volunteers occupied and cheerful, answering the back door and bringing all manner of bric a brac through into the shop for sale, filling up clothing racks, sorting, steaming, measuring, labelling, pricing all the while keeping an eye out for shoplifters.  No, paying attention to spiritual matters is not something that is at the top of my  'Things To Do' list.

When I joined the charity shop one of the volunteers there said to me 'new broom, clean sweep', meaning me, as the new Assistant Manager, being the new broom.  No. This is not my style. I would never stroll into a new workplace and make sweeping changes without having the full picture of what goes on or how the place operates.  Nor am I, technically, a new broom. I am not a new Manager. The emphasis of my new job is on the word Assistant. I am the new Assistant Manager.

It is a proverb I thought I understood though.  The new broom, making a clean sweep. It means a person being newly promoted to a post will perform the job more vigorously than their predecessor.  Which could be true.  Not in my case.  In my case, I like to take things slowly and learn how the land lies.

Anyway, this week, two things occurred to make me pay attention.  Firstly, a book of proverbs was being sold in the shop. A dictionary, really, a detailed history of many common proverbs.  Secondly, one of the volunteers couldn't find her broom.  She likes to sweep the shop floor clean at the end of the day with a long handled bristle brush.  We all looked everywhere.  No, the broom is missing.  We are going to need a new broom.  There it was again, the new broom reference.  Okay then, maybe I should pay attention now.

At the end of a long day, I made it home, armed with my newly purchased proverb dictionary.  Waiting for the kettle to boil I opened the book and it fell open on the page with the proverb 'A new broom sweeps clean'.  I felt strangely drawn to read the paragraph, as if I was being prompted to read it by an invisible presence.  It is difficult to explain what 'guided' feels like, but I was so tired from a long day in the charity shop which is laid out over two floors and has a reallllllly tall set of stairs, the last thing I wanted to do was read.  But there I was, reading in the kitchen.

'Go on then' I thought to myself, 'what is this book going to tell me about the new broom business'.  Well, apparently the new broom thing came about when a Dutch Fleet (from memory I think it was the Dutch) declared war on the English fleet and said they were going to sweep away anything in their path.  In response, an English Admiral tied a broom to the mast of his ship....(as you would), and made some equally explosive declaration about brushing them aside.  All very interesting. Not to mention that sailors then went on to tying a broom to their mast to indicate their ship was for sale.  Okay then.  No. This was not the surprising coincidence.  It was the name of the English Admiral that jumped out at me.  His name?  Robert Blake.  The name of my brother (now in Spirit).

Yes, I have been reminded, again, that even when we are completely immersed in material matters, Spirit still have a way of reaching out to us.

Lots of love and light to everyone who needs it.

Have you got a light?

'Have you got a light?'

Simple enough request.  A smoker, in need of a puff on a fag.  I get it.   Considering how much I love to re-interpret all the events that happen in my little life, I am surprised it has taken me so long to notice this little phrase.

Twice this week I have been asked for a light. Twice I have dismissed the request.  'No. I don't smoke.  I used to smoke but I gave it up'.  When people ask me for a light, I bore them with the story of how I gave up.  Yes, this is how I see a request for a lighter.  An opportunity to tell smokers that giving up is the way forward.  I provide a role model for them. If I can do it, they can do it. Obviously I don't say this to anyone who needs a cigarette, I just share my personal experience with them.

But wait, also this month I have come across disposable lighters on my path, disposed off, discarded, dropped because they are no longer working.

'Have you got a light?'  .....do you know what.  I have got a light.  It doesn't involve any flammable materials or burning tobacco. No, the light I have comes from within.  Of course.  A reminder to shine my own light, be the beacon of difference you want to be in the world.

Next time someone asks me if I have a light I am going to have to reply 'only from within'.  It will be interesting to see what happens!

Lots of love and light to everyone who needs it.

A tale of two Lilies

Inspired by an Address given by Lily Dee Dolan

Lily was the order of the day this week.  There have been Lillies, flowers , women named Lily and a man named Lilley.  Oh yes, the Lily pattern has flowed through my week.

It began with a Medium in church, called Lily.  She couldn’t be less like a Lily if she tried.  She is forthright, dynamic, truthful, spiritual and you just know that to answer her back would be a mistake. The type of medium who, when she speaks, people listen.  There is an edge about her.  The sort of person who can cut like a knife with her tongue, you know, I am sure there have been songs written about her.

Her message involves giving someone a Lily, also offering the name of Lily.  It is a pleasant name and I am always reminded of Bob Geldof’s Tiger Lily whenever I hear it.  But it was the Address that held the attention of the audience.  Lily addressed her congregation, a total of five people were seated in her presence to learn of the power of thought.

‘God is thought. Think about that. The power of our thoughts, we are all prophets and healers. No? We don’t believe so? We see someone suffering, what do we do? We think ‘oh bless that person’ and so we send healing. With the power of thought’.

Yes, this is true, our thoughts are powerful, living things, to send thoughts of healing, love and truth is to be in harmony with God. To use the magnificence of our mind to send love to areas where there is hostility, war, famine, drought, no matter what the turmoil, sending prayers and visualising healing is a small way to help those people who are suffering.  Using our minds for the greater good.  As Lily said ‘you might think it is you, doing the healing, but it isn’t. It is God, using you as a channel to bring healing and upliftment to people around you’.

What a lovely thought, to be able to heal an environment, a situation, another person, just by having control over our thoughts, using our mind as a transmitter for love, the powerful co-creators with God that we are. To be used by God to help other people, whether it is in the form of healing through being a sensitive soul, or healing through listening, caring, sharing, just being there for people in need, is surely a privilege.

That God would consider you evolved spiritually enough and good enough to be able to pass on love and understanding to the degree that is necessary. Putting your own cares and concerns to one side to be able to stand with another as they share/unburden their worries onto you. Not for you to do anything about them, not for you to take action, but for you to validate the other’s concerns by listening, being, acknowledging and caring.  This is the calling from one spiritual heart which is in need, to another spiritual heart who is able to hear the call.

Enter in the silence, as the hymn goes and with a little prayer we are able to link with Great Spirit, bringing peace and harmony into our worlds. Changing, improving, lightening our environment one thought and feeling at a time.

Lots of love and light to everyone who needs it.

a date etched into ageing woodwork...

Synchronicity.   To me, synchronicity is when an event is so coincidental that it just cannot simply be a random set of circumstances, I do believe there is a significance of such mystery that it may never be explained.

I love scientists attempts to rationalise the mystery of life, and at the same time I feel sort of sorry for them that they cannot fully appreciate the divine behind the beauty they are trying to dissect.

I also love coincidence.  Maybe because I am a lover of the mysterious, a watcher for divine intervention and a receptacle for spirit to work with, I am often told stories, usually unprompted, of coincidences which I feel have such synchronicity and intelligence about them that, surely, they can only have been orchestrated by something Divine and brilliant.

I met an acquaintance in the library and stopped to share her table in the canteen for a quick coffee. The lady told me she is moving away from the area.  She had been looking at moving to Norfolk and on spotting an area called 'Little Snoring' on the map, she had jokingly called her husband’s attention to it.

'I don't care where we go on the coast, as long as it is not there' she told him.

Looking for houses on the internet came up with the perfect house, price, size, style...the location?  ‘Little Snoring’.  So, despite the address, they went off for a viewing.

As they walked around the house, my acquaintance noticed some numbers etched into a beam in the main bedroom.

 'What is that?' she asked.

The vendor smiled and explained it was the day, month and year she gave birth to her only son.  My friend also smiled, it was the exact day, month and year of her own marriage.

They had their offer accepted on this house, the only house they felt a need to view and they will be moving shortly.

I love this story, it is a reminder to me that there is more to the Universal wonders that can ever be completely explained.
